Curry is the first Indian food item that is recognized by food lovers across the world. Curry is a very general term that refers to the gravy made with lentils and vegetables/meat that is enjoyed with breads like roti or naan and with cooked rice or biriyanis.
How the name curry evolved
The term could have been a modification of the Tamil word ‘Kaari’ for watery gravy or it must have got the name from the vessel ‘Karahi’ – the Indian cast-iron wok used to cook the sauce. Or else, if Westerners are to be believed, it has derived from the French word for cooking – ‘Cuire’.
